Job Description:

As the equipment engineer you are responsible for providing engineering support to the manufacturing maintenance and engineering team and ongoing requirements for manufacturing areas MFG6 & MFG7, upstream and downstream equipment including bioreactors, chromatography and filtration systems, and support equipment including autoclaves and CIP systems. The Equipment Engineer is responsible for fault finding escalated technical issues to ensure that equipment availability and reliability are optimized while maintaining safety and validated state. This involves building relationships and working closely with equipment suppliers and building knowledge of our mechanical and control systems. The engineer is also responsible for identifying and implementing optimization and improvement projects, as well as identifying and presenting larger CAPEX projects for appraisal and participating with the core project management group on approved projects.

This role will report to Manufacturing Maintenance Lead.

 

Your Responsibilities:

  • Assist in site start-up and project-related activities, supporting issue resolution during equipment installation, commissioning, and qualification phases.
  • Assist in vendor management as part of start-up installations with a view to building relationships for sustaining operations.
  • Contribute to knowledge build/management of the department as we build the knowledge and skills required to support delivering the manufacturing schedule.
  • Provide fault finding and troubleshooting expertise on ongoing technical issues, consulting with equipment vendors/component suppliers and site technical departments, automation, calibrations, and utilities.
  • Identify root cause utilizing lean fault-finding tools and identify/implement robust preventative actions/improvements.
  • Lead/provide SME input into cross-functional teams investigating manufacturing equipment deviations including authoring investigation reports, technical assessments, and summaries.
  • Build equipment vendor relationships, optimizing equipment interaction/maintenance and keeping up to date with equipment technical advances.
  • Champion and drive the implementation of Lean tools and techniques within the Manufacturing Department (e.g., Operator Care, PdM, PMO, Work Management).
  • Build expertise on Delta V control system, electrical, and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Champion and support energy-saving programs/projects within the Manufacturing Department.
  • Provide SME input into cross-functional teams investigating manufacturing equipment deviations including authoring investigation reports, technical assessments, and summaries.
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams as applicable.
  • Provide input and work with the Manufacturing leadership team to deliver the Manufacturing objectives.
  • Support audit preparation.
  • Identify and manage equipment training gaps and requirements.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with GMP requirements, SOPs, and controlled documents.
  • Be flexible to take on additional tasks and responsibilities at the discretion of the Manufacturing Maintenance Lead.
  • Function as a role model for the manufacturing function and the wider organization in adherence to the WuXi corporate core values and PROUD culture.

 

The ideal candidate for this position, will have the following education and experience.

Education:

  • Third level qualification in a science or engineering related subject or equivalent is preferable.

Experience:

  • Excellent communication skills, including computer literacy and the ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Experience and knowledge of Delta V MCS platform preferred; knowledge/experience with Control Studio is a distinct advantage.
  • Familiarity with Chromatography and Ultrafiltration production operations is desired.
  • Ideally, a significant level of experience in a large-scale biopharmaceutical/pharmaceutical facility.
  • Thorough knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Excellent focus and attention to detail is required.
  • Interest in innovative technologies, machine learning, 3D printing, AI, and augmented reality.
